Executive Director Announces Retirement

The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission announces the retirement of its Executive Director, Evelyn V. McGill, effective January 1, 2027, following nearly 19 years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth.
McGill joined the Commission on January 10, 2013, and has served as Executive Director, providing leadership and strategic direction across the agency while helping guide the Commission through significant organizational growth and change.
Under McGill’s leadership, the Commission has placed a strong emphasis on employee engagement, workplace culture and professional development. The Commission has been recognized repeatedly as a Top Workplace, reflecting the commitment to creating an organization where its Team Members feel valued, supported and connected to the agency’s mission.
The Commission has maintained its Top Workplace designation for six consecutive years, an achievement that reflects the contributions of employees throughout the organization and McGill’s emphasis on building a positive and collaborative workplace.
“Evelyn is an exceptionally talented leader and she has had an extraordinary impact on the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission,” said Wesley G. Marshall, Chairman of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. “Evelyn is the architect of this organization’s success. She is a steady and thoughtful leader who understands that a strong organization begins with its people. Our continued recognition as a Top Workplace is a testament to the culture Evelyn fostered and to the dedicated employees who make our mission possible every day.”
During her tenure, McGill has worked closely with the Commission’s leadership and staff to support the agency’s mission of providing a fair, efficient and accessible workers’ compensation system for Virginia, as well as services to crime victims.
“Serving as Executive Director of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission has been one of the great privileges of my career. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside an exceptional group of dedicated professionals who care deeply about the Commission’s mission and the people we serve. I am especially proud of what we have accomplished together—not only in strengthening the Commission, but in building a workplace where our Team Members feel valued, supported and proud to be part of the organization. The Commission’s future is very bright with such a talented Team in place, one that will continue to do what is good, fair, and just. I am grateful for the relationships, experiences, and memories I will carry with me. It has been an honor to have been part of this organization for nearly 14 years, truly a blessed journey.”
McGill’s retirement marks the conclusion of a distinguished career of service to the Commission. Her leadership has helped shape the organization and strengthen its workplace culture while keeping the Commission focused on serving injured workers, employers, insurers and other stakeholders across Virginia.
“We acknowledge Evelyn’s talent and leadership and are grateful for the foundation she has built for the Commission’s future,” said Marshall. “We thank her for nearly 14 years of service and for the lasting mark she has made on this organization.”
Additional information regarding the Commission’s executive leadership transition will be announced in the near future.
